Brenda Henderson passed away on November 23 at her home and in the care of Alan and Family.  Her obituary is posted on the church bulletin board.  Memorial contributions in her memory may be sent to the Buffalo River Foundation, P.O. Box 55, Ponca, AR  72670.

The Annual Sign-Up Season is here! The Bulletin Board has sign-up sheets for 2019 Greeters, Readers, Funeral Committee, Kitchen Committee, Children’s Story and more.  Your time and service is appreciated!

Farm Commodity Giving is the subject of an Everence seminar on Monday, December 10 at 10:00 AM and again at 6:30 PM at the Kalona Public Library.  The presentation will explain how gifts of commodities can provide support for church and charities and also reduce taxes.  Lyle Miller will be the presenter.  Call Joyce at 877-656-4242 to reserve a seat.

A ‘Building Use Calendar’ is becoming more helpful as there are activities beyond regular church programs. Piano lessons, family gatherings and blood drives are examples of extra activities.  Writing in your event makes a reservation—remembering funerals and other church activities have priority.

Can Christians Drink Alcohol—What 1,000 Churchgoers Think, MCC Meat Canning Under Pressure are features on The Pastor’s Plank of the Church Bulletin Board.

Poinsettias placed about the church building include those in memory of Donald & Lydia Jean Payne, Dwayne David Payne, Donnel Berryman and the Veatch Family.  Thank-you to each family.

Our Daily Bread devotional guides for December-January-February may be found in the foyer hallway and on The Welcome Table.

Advent means “coming” or “arrival” and celebrates the birth of Jesus the Christ in His First Advent and anticipates the return of Christ the King in His Second Advent. Advent also symbolizes our spiritual journey as we affirm that Christ has come, is alive today, and that He will come again.

The  Candles and Colors of Advent: Historically, the primary sanctuary color of Advent is Purple, the color of penitence and fasting as well as the color of royalty to welcome the Advent of the King.  In the four weeks of Advent the third Sunday came to be a time of rejoicing that the fasting was almost over. So, in many churches, the third Sunday remains the Sunday of Joy marked by pink or rose. -Adapted from The Season of Advent: Anticipation & Hope by Dennis Bratcher at www.crivoice.org
